Today’s application is drawn from Exodus 23-25.
“‘I will not drive them out from before you in one year, lest the land become desolate and the beast of the field become too numerous for you. Little by little I will drive them out from before you, until you have increased, and you inherit the land.’” – Exodus 23:29-30

The promised land lay before them, the smell of milk and honey wafting up into their hungry nostrils. Breathlessly they waited for the good news. It was finally time to enter their new home, this land of undreamable abundance. But instead of hearing what they hoped for, what they expected, they heard something terrible. Something they didn’t want to hear at all: time for more waiting. 2 million tummies growled. They stared coldly at each other, everyone thinking the same thing: more freakin’ Manna!?!

It can be the same with us. God carefully explains how he’s got it all planned out, how he’s taken every precaution to make sure we’re protected, how he’s carefully prepared for our success and happiness. Yet all we take away from the conversation is: more freakin’ Manna!?!
We shove a stiff pointer in God’s chest. “You promised. And now you’re saying I’ve got to wait more! Well I’m sick of waiting. All I do is wait.” Like a cantankerous child chastising a sumo wrestler, we forget our place in our anger, in our disappointment.
God is showing us how much he loves us by getting everything ready for our arrival, but all we hear is how little God loves us by withholding what we want.
I’m just glad God doesn’t squish us when we throw our little temper-tantrums at him.

Lord, help me to have faith in you. Help me to see that you love me more than I’ll ever know and you always have my best intentions in mind. Thank you for being so patient with me even when I lose patience with you.

Why does God seem to make us wait so much?
Is he always preparing us for something or does he ever just make us wait for the sake of waiting?
